The Rabbit Letter
1932. The Senghenydd Crate.
RABBIT THEFT
One of the more surprising finds from the Crate is an indignant letter of complaint to National Museum Cardiff from a Cardiff resident. The letter accuses the museum of stealing, stuffing and then displaying their pet rabbit “Bobbie”.
AN UNFINISHED TALE
On reading the letter, several researchers were struck by the similarity of the letter’s description to a rabbit still kept in the museum collection. It is now widely agreed that the claims in this letter are likely to be true.
The museum is currently making efforts to contact the Webber family and to repatriate the rabbit’s remains with its original owners.
